Maui, of the Hawaiian island chain, is the second largest island. Of course, unless you live under a rock, we’ve all seen Disney’s movie Moana inspired by Polynesian legends and culture. It incorporates a legend of a demi-god Maui and a lost at sea wahine (girl) and the adventure they go on together.

The movie is great for all audiences, it is about the dangers of what may lie beyond the unknown and choices that are made for the greater food of society. The writers and directors of Moana have made this movie about finding oneself, problems people have, the change of traditions, and friendship between two unlikely people. Moana, voice by Auli’i Cravalho, has always been drawn to the sea, partly because of the tales told by her grandma, voice by Rachel House, but also because it holds much mystery to her.

As is was inevitable, Moana finally gets the final push to go out into the mysterious sea on a mission that she had her heart set on completing. A legend told by her grandmother, the heart of Te Fiti.

Maui, voiced by Dwayne Johnson, is the demi-god that Moana is destined to complete this mission with. He is a vital part of this mission because he is the one who stole the heart of Te Fiti a thousand years ago. The two do not get along at all half the time they are together, they often butted heads and teased one another, it was very entertaining and humorous to watch.

All in all Moana sets a good tone for the spirit of Aloha and it is still alive on Maui.
